Ed Tech Program

Self-Reflection      The Ed Tech program as a whole taught me a lot of valuable information, strategies, and techniques on how I can effectively utilize technology in the classroom. Many of the strategies and topics covered gave me a better understanding of how we can continue to provide students with quality education, whether or not students are in the physical classroom or an online one. I did find it challenging to complete the weekly assignments along with the everyday demands our work requires of us. However, I value the understanding and support all our instructors consistently provided us.      The course I found most challenging was CITW with Tech. I have studied and applied all these strategies in the classroom, but most without using technology. It was at times challenging to find online resources or apps students and teachers can use that covers one or multiple of the instructional practices we covered in the course. However, through the w...

CITW with Tech: Reflection

Image
The biggest takeaway I have had from this course is the abundance of online resources I learned about. I am very familiar with the strategies covered in CITW with Tech. However, I only have experience using these strategies in the traditional way: in the classroom, with whole or small groups, teacher-led instruction. My goal when deciding to enroll in Ed Tech was to learn about the online sources available to us that have shown their effectiveness in helping student learning. This course gave me the opportunity to learn about several resources that I have never heard of. My favorite online resource that I have learned about is Nearpod . I feel like this one resource allows teachers to integrate all the strategies covered in our course with technology. Nearpod provides teachers with so much flexibility that we are able to include images, videos, simulations, and advanced graphic organizers within one lesson. Nearpod also supports cooperative learning by allowing whole or small groups to...

Digital Citizenship: Self-Reflection

Image
Digital Citizenship is a course that will teach you how to appropriately and responsibly use technology. Week by week, we develop a deeper understanding of the nine elements of digital citizenship. Although I see how important each element is, I feel like the elements that deal with online safety are what I was drawn to most. As a teacher, I am responsible for the safety of all my students in the classroom. The same is true in an online classroom. Taking this course has given me the tools and information I need to keep students safe, to teach students how to keep themselves safe, and to keep parents informed on online safety. Integrating Digital Technology in the Classroom I have integrated Digital Citizenship in my classroom by incorporating some features of the elements of Digital Citizenship into my online classroom rules. With our latest assignment, Digital Citizenship Contract, I think it will be a cool idea to start this in my class. We do something similar in our classroom for o...

Ed Tech - Google Apps

Image
I am currently in the Ed Tech Program and in my last week for Ed Tech - Google Apps. I have learned so much about the various apps Google has to offer. Throughout the course, we have had assignments that have helped give us a deeper understanding of each application. I appreciate these activities because of how relevant they are to my career. The reality is we use these apps on a daily basis. This course has helped me become much more efficient in completing all the tasks I have throughout the day. The app that I would like to explore more is Google Earth. This is one app that I would love to use more in the classroom. We live in such a remote area and many of our kids may not be able to see the rest of the world. Google Apps is a great way to give students a better perspective of what the rest of the world looks like.

My Art Work

Image
I would like to share a few pieces that I have done in the few years since I started painting and drawing. Art has been one of the great ways I can unwind, center myself, or simply escape all the stress we get from the real world. It truly is a therapeutic strategy that has gotten me through some of the toughest times. I hope the activities I have shared can do the same. If not, it's just a fun activity to do with your students, children, family, and friends!

Art Activities

Pull String Art Pull String Art is a super easy art activity the kids love. All you need are any type of liquid paint (acrylic, tempera, or watercolor), yarn, cup, and paper. The first step is to pour your paint into the cup. Dip your yarn into the paint, leaving about two inches hanging over the edge to hold onto place. Fold your paper in half, then place your coated yarn onto one half of the paper. When placing your yarn, you can arrange it in swirls, loops, or squiggles designs. Once your yarn is settled, fold the other half over the coated yarn. Then the final step, place your hand firmly over the paper and slowly pull the yarn and check out the results of your pulled string art. This is a great activity I love to use when teaching symmetry and abstract art.  If you would like a step by step tutorial with pictures, you can visit Ana's page:  How to Do the Classic Pulled String Art Project Marbleized Artwork   This art activity is one of my favorites to do at the ...

About Me

Image
Hello there! Welcome to my blog! My name is Shevonne Flores. I am a first-grade teacher. Prior to teaching 1st grade, I was teaching 3rd grade for three years. I have also worked with young kids at Head Start as a Teacher Aide. My love for helping and interacting with kids has led me to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education, and it is the reason why I chose to become a teacher.  I also love art. A few years ago, I delved deeper into the art world and learned how to paint. Here at my blog, I will share a few artworks I have done and some art techniques for all ages. These are ones that I feel anyone can do, regardless of how you will rate your art skills.
